[00:00:15.00] You've come to the right place. Whether you have one or two student loans to repay, [00:00:19.65] CanLearn can help you figure out the process in three easy steps. [00:00:24.23] Step 1 - Where to Make Your Payments [00:00:28.55] You applied for your loans through your province or territory but that doesn't mean that you only have one loan to pay back. [00:00:34.60] In some provinces and territories, loans are issued separately by the federal and provincial/territorial governments. [00:00:41.94] That means that you could have more than one loan and more than one loan provider to arrange payments with. [00:00:48.04] Step 2 - When to Make Your Payments [00:00:52.05] Once you've verified how many loans you need to repay and to whom, [00:00:55.80] it's important to know that most government student loan programs give you at least six months after your post-secondary studies [00:01:01.73] before you have to start paying back your loan. However, interest does accumulate during this time. [00:01:08.30] This six-month period is meant to give you enough time to find a job and start making money. [00:01:13.42] So contact your loan provider toward the end of your studies to determine the exact date you're expected to start paying back your loan, [00:01:19.72] and check out the Loan Repayment Calculator to determine your monthly payments. [00:01:27.00] Step 3 - How to Make Your Payments [00:01:32.30] You will be notified by mail that your loan repayment is about to begin. If you haven't received anything by mail, [00:01:38.60] make sure you contact your loan provider loan provider before the end of the six month period. [00:01:43.51] Your loan repayment papers will tell you: [00:01:46.20] - the total amount of your loan [00:01:48.48] - the interest rate that will be applied to your loan [00:01:51.64] - the monthly amount that will be withdrawn from your bank account [00:01:55.09] - the bank account the payment will be withdrawn from [00:01:58.10] - the date on which it will be withdrawn every month or, for those paying by cheque, when to send payment [00:02:05.04] - how long it will take to pay back your loan [00:02:07.74] In most cases, your loan payments will automatically begin six months after your studies end. [00:02:13.88] If they don't begin, contact your loan provider immediately. [00:02:17.88] And remember to keep your address information up to date, so you can proactively manage your payments. [00:02:24.13] Repaying your students loans doesn't have to be a complicated process. [00:02:28.12] Check out the CanLearn site to learn more. [00:02:41.38]
